August, 2023

Greetings From the OFOA Executive, I hope this email finds everyone well and in good health as the summer winds down. This newsletter provides a few updates and some important information as Labour Day approaches and we head into the fall football season.

Thank you to the Windsor & London Football Officials Associations for hosting the OSFL Championships. Congratulations to the officials who worked those events!  A special note of appreciation is extended to Trevor Semple who did an outstanding job co-ordinating all the officiating assignments.

The OSFL season provided many challenges for officials.  Of particular concern, is the decorum and behaviour of coaches.  Any feedback is welcomed by the executive and should be communicated through your regional reps. A sincere thank you is extended to Paul Duncan and the Lakeshore FOA for organizing and hosting a terrific day of golf on August 22nd at the Burlington Springs Golf Club.  Over 70 people attended the event and dinner.

With the high school and OFFL seasons approaching (mid-September), please continue your recruiting efforts.  Share Level 1 clinic opportunities with your neighbouring associations.  Contact Brian Schouten centraldirectorofoa@gmail.com for CFOA resources.

If you have not completed the CFOA on-line rules exam, please complete it ASAP. Use the exam as a learning tool, an assessment of your current knowledge, and as a demonstration of annual training.  From an insurance and liability perspective, its completion is vital.  Additionally, everyone is reminded to review materials related to Rowan’s Law and concussions.

The OFSAA Bowl Series (Festival) https://www.ofsaa.on.ca/championship/football-bowl-series-festival/  will take place November 27 – 29 at St. Clair College in Windsor.  Please note the dates.

Football Canada has requested everyone’s help gathering some officiating information.  Please complete their survey at your earliest convenience.
